I’m a 20-something Organizational Communication graduate student living in Chicago, Illinois. Although I am primarily concerned with how the personality of individuals affects group communication, my masters program has inspired me to think much more about “social position”; how we all have a race (whatever that is), ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, and economic status that also affects our daily lives.

  1. you are not white. you may, in part be white genetically . but NOT ONE white person will ever think of you as white. you are black-deal with it.

    • Interesting comment, Dana. I think it is easy to be wrong when you make an absolute statement like “no one”. Myself and my peers often treat me as White, so I think you are incorrect. I am dealing with it, through education, increased awareness, opportunities to be wrong and learn, writing online where people can make helpful or crude comments, and doing what I can to work past ignorant and unhelpful people like yourself.
